Submissions

When I first imagined writing a blog on sexual violence, something I knew I wanted to include was submissions from readers. There are so many of us walking around carrying secrets of sexual violence; many people have only told a trusted few about what happened to them - others have told no one.

I believe so passionately that these are not our secrets. The only person who should feel guilt or shame is the perpetrator of the crime. Anyone who has asked you to keep experiences of sexual violence to yourself has done so for their own good, not yours: whether they are an abuser who doesn't want to face justice, or a parent who doesn't want to deal with the fallout, they should be ignored. Admitting the truth and speaking out is the only way to start to recover.

Below are links to the stories of people who have chosen to speak out. I am so grateful for their courage, and I feel honoured to be trusted with their stories.

If you would like to share your story anonymously on this blog, email me: thesearenotmysecrets@gmail.com -  I'd really appreciate it if you could include your age, gender, and nationality.

Remember: these are not our secrets.
